Patty Mitchell teaches preschool at Saints Peter and Paul school. She knew she wanted to go into teaching since she was in the fourth grade. When Patty Mitchell was in the seventh and the eighth grade, teachers would call her to watch a class while they ran errands because it was such a small school. She likes the satisfaction she feels when “a light bulb flicks on” She loves it when students feel a flash of knowledge and a student finally gets.
Parents need to know about the skill level of her class and that every student is different and each child has to start at a certain point so that she can bring them forward. Patty Mitchell’s class is a wonderful combination of boys and girls. She says, “ They are very bright and reflect God’s image. They are amazing to watch.”
She enjoys teaching science and reading when she teaches the upper grades, and she works mostly on building a foundation in the lower grades. The preschool class does not take any field trips because the small students still require car seats.
Their classroom prayer is Angel of God.
Angel of God,
my guardian dear,
to whom God’s love
commits me here;
ever this day
be at my side
to light and guard,
to rule and guide, Amen.
Their basic classroom rules evolve, as they are needed. The rules are as simple as don’t hurt anyone and treat someone how you want to be treated. Other ones are just safety rules.
